The Light Blues have shelled out a massive fee to land the Everton striker in a big statement capture
Latest Ibrox signing Yousef Chermiti has promised Rangers fans goals after sealing his deadline day £10million move to Ibrox.
The Portuguese striker signed a four-year deal after leaving Everton – and says he can’t wait to get started for Russell Martin’s side.
Chermiti insists Rangers were the only club he wanted to play for as he vowed to strengthen the manager’s attacking options.
The 21-year-old joins £4.2 million buy Bojan Miovski up front and says he’s here to play.
Chermiti can’t wait to sample the Ibrox atmosphere and says: “For me, the most important thing is the interest from the club and the manager.
“And of course, I want to play. So I’m coming here to play.
“I think I can bring good things for the team and the club.
“But the most important thing is making the fans happy.
“I can bring sharpness, quick feet, assists and goals. I just want to help everyone here.
“I know Rangers is a big club, everyone knows about them.
“With the project Kevin and the manager showed me, I knew this was the best option for me.
“I know the football style here in Scotland so that’s a good start.
“Of course, I have some friends who have played here like Fabio Silva and Rafa Fernandes.
“But I think everyone in the world knows about Rangers.
“I’ve watched Rangers games in the Champions League and Europa League. Not so much in the Scottish league except the derbies.
“What I’ve heard about Ibrox is that the atmosphere is massive so I can’t wait to play there.
“I can’t wait to meet everyone in the club and get involved in this environment.”
Gers sporting director, Kevin Thelwell, signed the 21-year-old from Sporting for around £15 million when he was at Goodison Park.
Now, he’s brought Chermiti to Rangers for the biggest transfer outlay the club has had since signing Tore Andre Flo for £12million in 2000.
It’s understood they’ll pay £8million for Chermiti – with potentially £2million more in add-ons.
But gaffer Martin is delighted with the acquisition. He said: “We’re really pleased to bring Youssef to Rangers. He’s a young striker with huge potential and a lot of the qualities we were looking for in that position.
“At just 21, he already has valuable experience at a high level, and we believe this is the right environment for him to continue his development. We’re excited to work with him over the coming years and help him fulfil that potential here at Rangers.”
Thelwell knows the player well from his time at Everton and is convinced he can become a star in Glasgow.
The Gers sporting director said: “I am delighted to welcome Youssef to Rangers. I know his character well from our time at Everton, and I’ve always been impressed by his attitude, professionalism, and hunger to improve.
“We believe he can develop into a top striker here, and we’re confident that Rangers is the right place for him to take that next step. We’re all excited about what he can bring to the club over the coming years.”
