W&L Women’s Golf Completes First Round at Jekyll Island Collegiate

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – The Washington and Lee University women’s golf team battled tough course conditions in the opening round of the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational on Friday, finishing the day tied for 18th place with a team score of 329 (+41) at the King and Prince Golf Club – Hampton Course (Par 72, 5,601 yards).

The Generals faced a challenging setup, as the field’s average score was 82.54 strokes, with only two teams managing better than double-digit strokes over par. Carnegie Mellon (+6) and Emory (+9) lead the tournament heading into the second round.

Team Highlights:

• Total Birdies: 4
• Sophomore Ella Wong leads W&L after round one, posting an 8-over 80, placing her tied for 37th overall.
• Junior Julia Haetzel, first-year Berkley Bundy, and senior Laetitia Roegner each shot 83 (+11) and sit tied for 63rd place.
• First-year Alex Crews finished the round tied for 98th at 17-over (89).

Up Next:

The Generals return to the course for the second round of the Jekyll Island Collegiate on Saturday, March 16, with a 1:05 p.m. tee time from Hole 1 at the King and Prince Golf Club. W&L looks to make up ground in the standings with improved play in the final two rounds.
