Manchester United’s academy has some very talented midfielders currently, with Jayce Fitzgerald arguably one of the best.
Despite injuries delaying his breakthrough, Jayce Fitzgerald’s quality is evident every time he plays for Manchester United’s U21 side.
Fitzgerald has all the qualities to be a United midfielder in the near future if he manages to put everything together.
Last season, Ruud van Nistelrooy moved Fitzgerald into the first team, clearly signalling he thought the midfielder was worth challenging further.
Now, Michael Carrick has had a look at him.
Which Manchester United academy midfielder should be in the first-team next season?
Who is the biggest talent right now?
Bruno Fernandes spotted advising Jayce Fitzgerald in Manchester United training
This week has seen Carrick put several youngsters in first-team training, among them was Fitzgerald.
In a training clip released by club media on Saturday, Fitzgerald could be seen with Bruno Fernandes at one point.

In this clip of the pair together, Fernandes was coaching Fitzgerald, appearing to indicate what he needed to do when receiving the ball with his back to the opposition, opening up passing angles.
Getting advice from Fernandes is invaluable for a young midfielder like Fitzgerald, and he was clearly keen to listen.
Better still, Fitzgerald is getting first-team exposure under a midfield great, such as Michael Carrick will only benefit him.
There is an opportunity for United’s young midfielders to earn their place in the first team over the next few months ahead of a summer rebuild in the position.
Will Manchester United’s academy midfield group produce another world class talent?
Scholes, Mainoo, ???? Who is the next one up?
Jayce Fitzgerald’s breakout is only delayed, but Michael Carrick could use him
Academy talent’s success is not linear, as top prospects can blossom at any stage.
Paul Pogba had to leave United to become top class, while JJ Gabriel is already knocking on the first-team door.
Fitzgerald turns 19 in May, but he’s missed at least a season’s worth of football through injury in his young career, and so his development was always going to be hindered.
Carrick bringing Fitzgerald into the first-team squad is a real opportunity for him to establish himself as a potential alternative in the squad to Manuel Ugarte or Tyler Fletcher.
United could use a talent like Fitzgerald, who is very versatile and can do almost any job asked of him at the club.
Hopefully, this is a signal of Fitzgerald finally stepping up a level.
