Danny Rohl wants to become the new Rangers manager and is keen to start the role as soon as possible, according to Chris Jack.
The Ibrox club are looking for a new manager after deciding to sack Russell Martin earlier this month, following a dismal start to the season, which has seen them win just one of their opening seven games in the Scottish Premiership.
Steven Gerrard had been the favourite to return to the club as their new boss, but he withdrew from the process, and now the Glasgow side are continuing their search with Kevin Muscat believed to be the leading candidate for the role.
Rohl Wants to Start as Rangers Manager ASAP
Rohl, who has been described as “unbelievable”, is also among the candidates to replace Martin at Ibrox, and while Muscat is the top choice currently, it’s understood that no decision has been made yet.
Muscat is currently in charge of Chinese outfit Shanghai Port and the club are on the verge of winning the league title with just four games remaining in their campaign. That means he wouldn’t arrive at Rangers until after the November international break.
That has opened the door for Rohl, who wowed chairman Andrew Cavenagh and vice-chairman Paraag Marathe during his interview for the role last week, and it’s understood that the German would be eager to start the job as soon as possible.
Rangers are set to host Dundee United in their next fixture on Saturday afternoon at Ibrox, before a Europa League clash away to Brann in Norway in midweek. That game is set to be followed with a Scottish Premiership clash against Kilmarnock, a trip to Easter Road to face off with Hibernian and then the League Cup semi-final against Celtic at Hampden Park.
The club’s hierarchy has not forgotten that packed schedule, but they are aware they cannot afford to make another mistake when appointing the next manager and don’t want to rush into any decision.
Rohl would be ready to come in immediately, and with no compensation, as he is a free agent. Both candidates have support from within the corridors at the club, and it’s now about who the recruitment panel opt to go for as their top target.
