Tiger Woods’ teenage son Charlie is only three strokes off the lead after day one of the Team TaylorMade Invitational.
Charlie carded a 2-under 70 at Streamsong Resort’s Black Course on Monday.
The 16-year-old’s opening round was wildly entertaining, with the junior golfer making eight birdies, five bogeys, one treble bogey, three pars and an eagle.
Charlie started on the back nine and began the tournament with back-to-back bogeys. An eagle at the par-5 12th, as well as birdies a the 13th, 14th and 16th saw him turn in 2-under 34.
The teenager played his second nine in level par after hitting four birdies, one par, one triple bogey and two bogeys.
He ended the day in a share of 13th place.
The tournament is part of the American Junior Golf Association’s 2025 schedule. Only 72 players are in the field.

Charlie Woods comes up short again in U.S. Open qualifying
The third men’s major of the year, the U.S. Open at Oakmont, is on the horizon.
Charlie attempted get into the field but failed to advance from local qualifying last month.
In his most recent attempt, Charlie participated in a local qualifier at Wellington Golf Club in Florida.
He shot a 3-over par 75 and it left him seven strokes short of those that advanced to the next stage.
It was a marked improvement from 12 months ago where he shot a 9-over 81 at the Legacy Golf & Tennis Club in Florida.
Tiger, who has three U.S. Open titles among his 15 major triumphs, never had to go through the first stage of local qualifying.
He was exempt from 1992 through 1994 owing to his US Junior Amateur titles.
Tiger failed to make it through the final qualifying stage in 1992 and 1993 when he was still in high school.
He played his first U.S. Open in 1995.
Tiger is not playing this year as he is recovering from a ruptured achilles tendon.
He has not revealed when he is expected to return to the course.
It would not be surprising to see Tiger and Charlie tee it up at the PNC Championship in December.
Team Woods lost in a playoff to Bernhard Langer and his son Jason at the parent/child PGA Tour event the last time it was played.
