Manchester United are looking to appoint a new permanent manager, and a real wildcard is in the mix.
Ruben Amorim has been sacked as Manchester United head coach after a largely unhappy 14 months in charge at the club.
Speculation is rife about United’s next move, with Ineos yet to settle on a direction.
Darren Fletcher has been appointed as interim boss, although there is no guarantee this will last until the end of the season.
There are available managers who could step right in, including the unexpectedly available Enzo Maresca.

Enzo Maresca an option
Enzo Maresca was dismissed from his role as Chelsea manager on New Year’s Day, in a shock move before Ruben Amorim’s dismissal.
Maresca is an intriguing wildcard, with Teamtalk reporting there has been contact between him and Manchester United.
Last season Maresca led Chelsea to a fourth-placed finish last season and also won the Club World Cup. They were in fifth place at the time of his exit.
Previously, Maresca had led Leicester City to promotion to the Premier League as champions before quitting to join Chelsea.
He is available, understands the Premier League, and is young and ambitious. He has also been linked to Manchester City as a potential replacement for Pep Guardiola.
But that is not where the City connections end.

The dangerous Manchester City connection
Enzo Maresca previously worked at Manchester City, coaching their youth teams.
He crossed over with current Manchester United technical director Jason Wilcox and chief executive Omar Berrada.
The connection is there, yet this would amplify a dynamic that has already been recently criticised, with former Manchester City men running United.
Speaking to The Good, The Bad & The Football, former United star Nicky Butt believes that appointing Maresca would be too big a risk for Wilcox and Berrada.
“That can’t happen for the longevity of the people at the football club.
“If they get another City guy in, and it goes bad, they are done.
“It can’t happen.”
Butt went onto add: “I’d give my season ticket back… I just can’t accept that, I just can’t.”
Butt previously hit out at the United board, claiming they did not understand the Manchester United philosophy.
And while he added that he rates Maresca as a ‘good manager’, he is right to underline that adding him into this current set up could end up backfiring on Ineos altogether.
