A slippery one for Rose, but that almost dies before tumbling into the hole, the former Olympic champion is back to -9!

To -3 McIlroy goes! The roars echo around Augusta and suddenly there’s a bounce in his step again.

Niemann (E) off the back at one, tidies up with a putt from off the green, the Chilean is under huge pressure to salvage his hopes of a first significant finish at a major, having never finished better than T16, despite emerging as a serial winner on both the PGA Tour and latterly with LIV.

Aberg, even today, is at -4 and just four back, he makes a solid shot at the par three 12th, Bhatia has made a critical error though, following the Swede and smashing into the bank, with the agonising roll of the ball down into the drink.

That is quite brilliant, momentum is growing, McIlroy stuffs one at 11, making a strong start at Amen Corner.

That’s a very realistic birdie shot and could the Northern Irishman pull to within five of Rose?

Rose taking his medicine, a spinny wedge for his third to the par five 15th, and a conservative approach to the middle of the green. But it comes out a little hot, but that’ll settle and he’s within two putts of marching on and safe enough again at -8.

Homa with a monster putt on 15, he’s desperately trying to make the cut, it’d be huge for Max after a testing year.

McIlroy with an easy birdie putt on 10, made by the booming drive and a crashing iron shot to chop that 495-yard par four down to size.

With Rose stumbling, he’s just six back now. But DeChambeau is close, now just one back.

After marshalling his way around Amen corner with a bit of a scatter-gun nature Justin Rose came through the three holes one-under par.

He gives that back on the 14th though with a bogey five after being slightly out of position.

That feels as though it’s been coming for a while but Rose remains collected and pings his drive on 15 right down the middle of the fairway.

Over on the ninth Rory McIlroy smokes his driver 360 yards down the middle of the fairway and has about 100 yards left to go to the green.

He gets out the wedge and flicks it past the hole with back spin.

There’s too much pace and the ball rolls past the hole, catches a lip on the green and finishes about 20ft from the hole.

He strikes the birdie effort well but it slips wide and he taps in for par.

One of the more understated rounds taking place right now is that of Sung-Jae Im.

He’s four under for the day and thru nine holes has moved to within four shots of the lead.

Ludvig Aberg is back to (-4) for the week after a super birdie on the eighth.

He’d bogeyed both the sixth and seventh but is now back to level par for the round which will make him feel better.

Tommy Fleetwood is starting to click in this round. Over on the par-three sixth he lands incredibly close to the hole off the tee and pops it in for a two.

Fleetwood is now two under for the day and (-1) for the tournament.
