TGL Expands To Detroit For Its Seventh Team

TGL — the golf simulator league that started up this year — will add a seventh team for the 2027 season.

The team will be owned by Steve Hamp and Shelia Ford Hamp, the principal owner of the Detroit Lions. Also part of the ownership team is Denver Broncos owner Rob Walton and attorney Jordan Rose.

The inaugural season had six teams that represented Atlanta, Boston Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco and Jupiter, Florida.

Bringing a team to the Midwest — and particularly golf-mad Michigan — makes a lot of sense. Indeed, I called for it in an article I wrote on TGL back in January.

No doubt Ford logos will be all over SoFi stadium when the Motor City Golf Club plays. I expect they also will sell a lot of Motor City Golf Club logos.

“Detroit is a fantastic sports town. The city has a championship legacy and Detroit Fans are passionate about their teams and they’ll let you know it,” said TGL and TMRW Sports CEO Mike McCarley in a statement.

He’s not wrong.

There are twelve US cities (and surrounding metro areas) that have teams in all four of the major sports, and Detroit is one of them.

I am really looking forward to this.
