Scottie Scheffler has unsurpisingly decided not to compete in the $20m Truist Championship, the PGA Tour’s latest Signature Event of the season from 8-11 May.
World No.1 Scheffler, 28, was the one big omission when the field was first listed by the PGA Tour Communications team on 2 May.
Billy Horschel was the only other player in the world’s top 25 not down on the starting sheet.

Scheffler’s decision to skip the Truist Championship should not come as a huge surprise to his most ardent fans.
That’s because he told the media at the end of last season he intended to reconsider playing in PGA Tour events the week before each of the majors in 2025 in a bid to bring his A-game.
The Truist Championship starts just seven days before the start of the second major of the season, the PGA Championship.
Scheffler is going in search of his first Wanamker Trophy and his third career major to add to two Green Jackets at The Masters (2022, 2024).

All Tour professionals are very different when it comes to the majors.
Some of the world’s best believe playing in a PGA Tour event and getting those competitive juices flowing is vital the week before a major.
Others like 13-time PGA Tour winner Scheffler, at least this season, consider spending time with family and working hard on their game at home is the best way to perform at a top level in the majors.
Signature Events are also not mandatory for players on the PGA Tour, unlike the case for LIV Golf players on the LIV Golf League who have to compete in all 14 tournaments.
However, it is hoped by those above at the PGA Tour along with tournament sponsors that the very best players on the circuit compete in these Signature Events since that’s why they’ve been set up in limited-field settings with huge prize purses on the line.

The Truist Championship will be held at The Philadelphia Cricket Club’s Wissahickon Course, with World No. 2 and four-time Truist Championship winner Rory McIlroy set to defend his title.

Scheffler’s omission from the Truist Championship will mark the second time he has been absent from a Signature Event in 2025.
That’s after he was forced to miss The Sentry in Hawaii at the start of the year following a shock hand injury.
Scheffler required hand surgery after sustaining a puncture wound to his right hand while making homemade ravioli on Christmas Day.
The injury, which involved a broken wine glass, required surgery to remove glass fragments and resulted in a temporary hiatus from competitive golf.
Scheffler had to miss the first four weeks of the PGA Tour season as a result of undergoing hand surgery.
Despite winning nine times around the world last season, including seven official titles on the PGA Tour and a first Olympic gold medal, Scheffler has yet to register a victory in 2025.
But he is currently sitting very pretty atop the leaderboard on home turf at The CJ Cup Byron Nelson.
Scheffler has fired rounds of 61 and 63 to lead by six shots after two rounds at TPC Craig Ranch.

Why is the Truist Championship not at Quail Hollow Club?
The 2025 Truist Championship marks the sixth of eight Signature Events on the 2025 PGA Tour schedule.
A prize purse of $20m is up for grabs with a whopping $3.6m going to the champion.
The Truist Championship is also the new name for the former Wells Fargo Championship that used to be staged at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte.
But with that venue hosting the PGA Championship (also known as the US PGA) the following week (15-18 May), the Truist Championship is being held at The Philadelphia Cricket Club’s Wissahickon Course for the first time.
Scheffler presents Green Jacket to McIlroy
Masters champion and World No.2 Rory McIlroy is the headline name in the 2025 Truist Championship.
The latest member of the career grand slam club will look to defend his title and win for the fourth time on the PGA Tour this season.
McIlroy, 35, has won the Truist Championship a record four times.
He won the first of his 29 career titles to date on the PGA Tour at this event in 2010.
The Northern Irishman then added wins in 2015, 2021 and 2024.
Max Homa is the only other PGA Tour player with multiple wins (2019, 2022) in this tournament.
