Rock Ridge girls golf geared up for third straight state trip

The Rock Ridge girls golf team claimed the Section 7AA championship at the end of May, and have since been hard at work preparing for the state tournament. It’s a stage the Wolverines know well, with this marking their third straight trip to state.

“It’s their self-determination that they put into the game during the year outside of the season that really excels them,” second year head coach Kyle Lawrence said.

The Wolverines placed five in the top seven at sections, with Madison Fingeroos and Erin Hughes tying for first. Just sophomores the upcoming duo each shot a 176 to win the Section 7AA crown.

“If I had a bad shot, I would try and push through that and then focus on the next one. And I think my putting helps me a lot,” Fingeroos said.

“I think it’s fun because we’ve had a few years under our belt and we’re excited to have a few more. We’ve had success and we want to keep it going and make sure that we continue to get better. We’re happy with where we are now, but we always know we can be better,” Hughes added.

Rock Ridge will swing into the first round of state on June 10th. The Class AA stage is Ridges at Sand Creek in Jordan, Minnesota. For the state schedule, click here.
