Peter Crouch left baffled by what he’s hearing about Mohamed Salah – ‘Unfinished business’

Mohamed Salah has not enjoyed as good a season for Liverpool this time around, but Peter Crouch has been left confused by suggestions that the Reds should cash in

Peter Crouch says he is baffled by claims that Liverpool could let Mohamed Salah leave this summer, a year before his contract expires.

The former Reds man is still of the belief that Salah can play at the highest level, even though he has not performed at his peaks levels for Arne Slot so far in this campaign.

There remains interest in Salah from the Saudi Pro League and in December, the Egyptian fueled speculation that he could be heading out of Anfield when he dropped an explosive interview in the mixed zone at Elland Road, following a 3-3 draw with Leeds United.

“He’s a world-class player and I’d like to see him still at Liverpool next season,” Crouch told Paddy Power. “I think he’s still got unfinished business; he won’t want to go out like this with the season he’s having this year.

“It feels like he’s getting back to form in the last couple of games. Obviously before and after the Africa Cup of Nations, he was definitely looking like he was struggling for form.

“But it’s been better lately. Still not the Mo Salah we know, but he’s definitely got another season in him. It’s not as if he’s overweight and his legs are gone yet!”

So far this season, Salah has scored seven goals and laid on another eight for his teammates. That is considerably down on the 57 goal contributions he managed in 2024/25.

“The moments when I didn’t play him, I was trying something different,” Slot said when Salah returned from AFCON to play against Marseille in the Champions League.

“We have missed goals from all the ball possession. If there’s one player in the history of Liverpool that can score goals, it’s Mo Salah.

“It says a lot about how big a professional he [Salah] is that he can be away for more than a month with a different team and be so fit to play 90 minutes for us after one day of training.

“He was so close to a goal. It would usually be a goal from him, but it didn’t harm us because we scored three.”

Liverpool.com says: If the Reds get a massive offer for Salah in the summer, there might be a decision to make. As much as anything, though, it will be down to the player.

Keeping him for another 12 months would be no bad thing, but there is no doubt that Salah hasn’t hit the same heights this time around. Against Brighton last weekend, he looked sharper than he has done for months, so maybe a corner has been turned.
