Wolves defender Nasser Djiga has signed for Rangers on loan – and told fans he’s buzzing to join one of the biggest clubs in Europe.

The Ibrox club have tied up the 22-year-old Burkina Faso centre-back, who Wolves splashed out £10m on in the January window, until the end of the season.

Djiga becomes new gaffer Russell Martin’s fifth summer signing after the arrivals of Max Aarons, Joe Rothwell, Emmanuel Fernandez and Thelo Aasgaard.

The 6ft 4ins centre-half has only been at Molineux since January after Wolves forked out £10 million to Red Star Belgrade.

Djiga made five Premier League appearances but just one start against Manchester United under boss Vitor Pereira.

He’s already got eight caps for his country and has played in the Champions League for Red Star.

After signing his Gers deal, Djiga said: “I am very happy to join Rangers, it is one of the biggest clubs in Scotland and in Europe.

“I will try to give everything, to play every game and I think it is the best team for me. I just want to play and enjoy football with the team.”

Boss Russell Martin added: “Nasser is someone who, despite still only being 22, has garnered valuable experience in both the UEFA Champions League and Premier League.

“We believe he has all the attributes required to thrive here at Rangers in the upcoming campaign and I am looking forward to working with him.”

Previously, Djiga was at Dutch club Vitesse, Swiss outfit Basel and on loan at French side Nimes.

He will strength Martin’s defence further after the signing of young Peterborough centre-back Fernandez.

The Ibrox boss also welcomed back John Souttar to training this week and is still chasing a deal for Leicester City’s Conor Coady.

Djiga will join his new team-mates at their St George’s Park training camp this week.

Meanwhile, Martin is also hoping to land Sheffield Wednesday winger Djeidi Gassama.

The former PSG wide man is set to arrive on a permanent deal.
