DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (March 2, 2025) – The University of North Alabama men’s golf team heads to Daytona Beach, Fla. on March 3-4 for the Daytona Beach Intercollegiate, hosted by Stetson University at LPGA International (Hills Course). This is the start of four tournaments in March.

NOTES
LAST TIME OUT: The Lions opened up the spring season in Atlantic Beach, Fla. where they played in the Sea Best Invitational on Feb. 3-4. North Alabama finished seventh of 12 teams in the tournament, getting off to a slow start and unable to recover from it. The field included teams such as heavyweight Texas A&M and ASUN foes like Lipscomb and FGCU. Sophomore Andrew Ferworn picked up where he left off finishing tied for ninth with a 210 scorecard and three-under for the tournament.
MARCH’S MARCH: The Schmitz Family Head Men’s Golf Coach Austin Phillips scheduled the Daytona Beach Intercollegiate as the spring semester began. This last-minute addition puts four tournaments in the month of March for the team. The Lions travel to Daytona Beach for this one, Thomasville, Ga. for the Seminole Intercollegiate on March 10, Napa, Calif. For the Bridgestone Collegiate Invitational on March 24 and the Golfweek/Any Given Tuesday Invite March 31.
THE BREAKDOWN: Stetson is the host school for the tournament, where a total of nine teams will compete. North Alabama tees off on March 3 starting at 8 a.m. ET by way of a shotgun start. The course is a par 72 and spans 7,015 yards.
THE FIELD: A total of nine teams will participate in this tournament. A slew of new faces with Wright State, Oakland and Columbia headline these. ASUN foes West Georgia and Central Arkansas join in on the tournament. Other teams include Troy, Jacksonville State and Campbell. 15 total teams will compete, however six participate as individuals which are UCF, UNCW, FAU, Georgia State, Austin Peay and Stetson.
HIGHEST RANKED: According to available records, the Lions secured their highest ranking to date during the 2024 fall season. The Lions finished 78th in the national polls provided by Scoreboard powered by Clippd. There are 308 teams competing in men’s golf across college athletics. North Alabama was the only team to record only two losses outside of Ole Miss, who ranked first in the country. The Lions notch a few solid rankings as well with Ferworn climbing to No. 135 nationally, while Luo nestles in at No. 202. Bengtsson finishes at No. 430 for the final Lion inside the top-450 golfers in the nation. The player rankings clear over 2,000 total players.
