Masters Leads Women’s Golf Through Round One in Northfield

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Gustavus women’s golf team began its final spring tournament of the season Saturday, April 26, competing in the St. Olaf-Carleton Invitational at Willingers Golf Club (par 72). Through round one, the Gusties are seventh of 11 teams at the tournament, which features nine MIAC competitors.

Individually, Maren Masters is leading the team in fifth overall, while the Gusties shot a round one 340 (+52).

Masters (So., Shakopee, Minn.) is just five shots out of first place after Saturday’s round, carding a seven-over par 79. She posted six pars and three birdies, including a two-shot performance on hole 17 to wrap up her day.

Lauren Hubbart (Jr., Hastings, Minn.) is next for the Gusties, carding a pair of birdies and five pars to shoot an 84 (+12) for 22nd overall. Riley Zebroski (So., Watertown, S.D.) is four shots behind her teammate in 37th, carding an 88 with seven pars and a three-shot birdie on her first hole of the day. Emily Kolb (Jr., Sioux Falls, S.D.) posted a day one 89 behind Zebroski to tie for 41st.

Josie Raiche (So., Orono, Minn.) is in 52nd, followed by Mary Kate Hewitt (So., Edina, Minn.) in 66th to round out the Gusties’ six competitors in Northfield.

“Willinger is a challenging golf course to score well on,” said head coach Scott Moe ’95. “With that being said, you still need to avoid big numbers and three-putts. A few of the challenging holes we let get to us and made some bigger numbers, I think tomorrow we will be able to clean that up and be in much better shape. Maren [Masters] had a nice round today, looking forward to a great final day for all seven of our players.”

Gustavus continues competition tomorrow morning, April 27, at Willingers with an 8:45 a.m. start.
