Manchester United have some high-performing loanees this season, earning plenty of plaudits in England and abroad, but one is beginning to be the standout.
Over the past few years, Manchester United’s loan system has not worked.
Young talents would go out to clubs where they were either underutilised or poorly utilised by the management, which often saw little development.

But Jonny Evans became the loans and pathways manager in the summer, and this season has seen young talents far better placed on loans, and unsurprisingly, there have been more successes.
Now one has just reached new heights.

Harry Amass scores for Sheffield Wednesday
Out of all the youngsters on loan, Harry Amass has arguably been the most positive, with some brilliant performances coming in a Sheffield Wednesday side that has been in turmoil this season off the pitch.
On Saturday, it was more of the same from Amass as he shone for Wednesday in a 3-1 defeat, arguably being the man of the match. In this game, Amass scored his first professional goal, and it was an incredible strike.
Amass picked the ball up in the middle of the pitch before carrying it past a handful of defenders and then finding the bottom corner with his left foot while running away from goal, an insane strike. The goal is something Ruben Amorim will have loved, given the demand for wing-backs to add that threat; now he knows Amass can.
Following the game, the Sheffield Star handed Amass an 8/10 match rating and gave him an excellent review.
“Reyt [Very] good at footy. What a magnificent first goal in senior football that showed all sorts of attributes. A classy prospect.”
Amass stats vs Southampton

- 1 goal
- 42/47 passes completed
- 2 chances created
- 9 defensive contributions
- 69 touches
- 2/3 successful dribbles
- 3 tackles
- 4 clearances
- 7 recoveries
- 5/8 duels won
This performance comes after United in Focus exclusively revealed that Amass has impressed United on loan, with the decision makers delighted with his progress, even considering sending further prospects to Wednesday.
Amass has benefited massively from this loan as he has improved his toughness and physicality, which was a frequent concern. Hopefully, this loan is extended until June, and next summer, he can compete with Patrick Dorgu for the starting role.
Dan Gore another standout loanee for Manchester United
While Amass was very impressive on Saturday, so was fellow loanee Dan Gore, who is currently bossing the midfield for League One Rotherham.
Almost a forgotten talent after two failed loans and plenty of injury problems, Gore is finally re-finding his feet and shining this season for the in-form League One side, who are seven points off the top.
In this 3-0 win, Gore got his first assist of the season as he set up former United academy talent Reece James.
Gore was impressive and tidy in midfield as he has been most of this season, playing very regularly and no doubt earning himself a new contract at Old Trafford with the qualities Ruben Amorim’s midfield needs.
Gore made his debut for United’s first team in September 2023 against Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup, but following this, he made just one one-minute appearance for the club.
He absolutely has the talent to make it; now a test of whether he can find the consistency and put everything together.
