Brean Golf Club could be set for major changes under a ‘broad sustainability review’ by the new owners of the holiday park.
Brean’s current 18-hole golf course, which is located next to Brean Leisure Park, came under new ownership in October 2024 when the whole 240-acre site was sold by the House family.
As reported here, it was taken over by Unity Beach Resort, owned by former Butlin’s MD Dermot King and Mark Seaton, former MD of Cove UK. TV host Alex Jones cut a ribbon to open the new-look facilities earlier this year.
Now, several staff have contacted Burnham-On-Sea.com to say they have been informed that the country club and restaurant may be set to close in December 2025, and that the golf course may be reduced to a 9-hole pay-as-you-play course by March 2026 as part of several changes being considered to enable additional holiday homes to be introduced.
However, Unity Beach Resort Director Jonny Green told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We are undertaking a broad exploration into how the resort can be sustainably enhanced under our new ownership – it is a very wide piece of work and nothing is definitely on or off the table.”
“As things stand, no final decisions have been made on anything. Currently, an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) screening request is being prepared for submission to Somerset Council.”
“This will assess the potential environmental implications of introducing caravans, roadways, and supporting infrastructure, alongside any adjustments to the golf course.”
“In the interim, and to minimise any operational disruption, the Brean Country Club team has been asked to take no new bookings beyond December 14th, 2025.”
