Antoine Semenyo has an £65million release clause within his Bournemouth contract, potentially leaving Liverpool and Manchester United salivating at the prospect.
Following links with both clubs during the summer transfer window, Semenyo pledged his allegiance to the Cherries, reports the Mirror.
Nevertheless, despite penning fresh terms that should secure his presence at the Vitality Stadium through 2030, he may find himself departing as soon as January following a fresh disclosure.
According to The Athletic, the Ghanaian’s revised contract contains a £65m release clause that any club can activate.
Semenyo joined Bristol City in 2017 but he needed loan spells at Bath, Newport and Sunderland before breaking into the Robins first team during the 2020-21 season.
In January 2023 he made a £10m move to Bournemouth – with the Robins having a 20 per cent sell-on clause for any profit which the Cherries make.
As a result, if the £65m release clause is met, then £11m will be coming the way of Bristol City.
Bournemouth have reportedly and reluctantly ‘acknowledged’ that his destiny lies beyond their control, with a January departure remaining feasible.
It’s suggested that Liverpool or United – or indeed any other potential suitors – must trigger his clause by a specified deadline to allow the Cherries sufficient time to locate a replacement.
Following his remarkable haul of 13 goals in all competitions during the previous campaign, Semenyo became the subject of intense transfer speculation linking him with moves to United or Liverpool, whilst Tottenham also registered their interest.
Ultimately, United secured the services of Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko, whilst Liverpool welcomed arrivals including Florian Wirtz, Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike.
Spurs meanwhile completed a £55m swoop for Mohammed Kudus from West Ham United.
Nevertheless, having netted six Premier League goals so far this season, those clubs may well renew their pursuit of the 25 year old when the January transfer window opens.
