John Eustace ‘really excited’ by Derby County prospect as youngster gets chance to impress

Latest Derby County news from DerbyshireLive brings you what the Rams head coach had to say about a Derby County academy prospect

John Eustace is really excited by the potential of Derby County prospect Owen Eames as he explained how the academy midfielder has catapulted himself towards the first-team squad.

Eames was on the bench for the win over Swansea in midweek as Derby secured their third successive away win in the Championship.

Eustace has not been afraid to give the academy players a taste of life with the first-team squad with striker Lennon Wheeldon having featured already this season.

Now Eames, 19, is having his chance to make an impression and he has been training with the team ahead of their trip to face Middlesbrough this weekend.

Derby have high hopes for Eames, who is a central midfielder, and Eustace said he has been pleased with what he has seen from him so far.

“He’s been working his socks off,” he said.

“He’s got a great attitude.

“I really like the lad. His work ethic is very good and he’s got an eye for goal as well.

“I am delighted that he’s part of the group at the moment and he’s getting great experience working with the likes of Andi Weimann, Ryan Brewster and Carlton Morris and all of those kind of players.

“It’s important with the young boys coming through the academy that they get their taste of the first team action.

“He’s one we’re really excited about.”
