In an exclusive interview with Funding Globe owner Neil Petty, he claims they will look to put Accies into administration this week
Hamilton Accies are just ‘days away from administration’, according to The Funding Globe who have a holding charge against the club.
And in an explosive exclusive interview with the financial services firm, they have also confirmed Lanarkshire Live Sport’s story from last week that the club agreed a deal with Sheffield United to sell the rights to Ryan One’s future sell-on fee.
Hamilton Accies last week published a club statement on its website claiming our story was “factually inaccurate” and that ‘”Hamilton Academical has not sold, discussed, or entered into any arrangement” regarding Ryan One.
However, Lanarkshire Live Sport has seen leaked documents which prove discussions DID take place over a number of weeks.
This contradicts Hamilton Accies’ official club statement released on Wednesday last week in which it attacked the publication for its story and recent coverage of the club, which has also seen us exclusively reveal the club’s outstanding debts when Rob Edwards took over and the ‘unsustainable’ £83,000 a month player wage bill at the club.
The Funding Globe, who were in sole control of Accies before Edwards took the reins on January 3, 2026, insist a deal was agreed and we can now reveal the figure for the sell-on rights to Ryan One was £225,000. Accies had previously valued these rights at £5m in June last year.
In November last year, The Funding Globe provided a loan of £115,000 to Accies to pay players’ wages and prevent the club from plunging into administration under the previous regime. Part of this deal also saw the Funding Globe representative Jonny Towers appointed to the club board.
However, between December 15, 2025 and January 3, 2026, Jonny Towers was the sole director at Hamilton Academical after previous owner Seref Zengin was deemed not fit and proper by the SFA and director Gerry Strain was also forced off the board by the SFA’s ruling.
With the club owing the Funding Globe for their loan, Funding Globe owner Neil Petty says a deal was struck which would have cleared the club’s debt, paid the December wage bill and allowed them to walk away.
However, Mr Petty says for reasons unclear to him, that deal did not go through.
Mr Petty told Lanarkshire Live Sport: “Hamilton has not settled their loan with The Funding Globe and they are still in default, so we have been in discussion with administrators for two weeks now and we are days away from appointing administrators.
“We have seen the reports on Ryan One and the story there is that Hayley Scott – Hamilton’s former chief financial officer – was negotiating with Sheffield United on our behalf to take the amount of £225,000 for a full and final settlement of Ryan One’s contract, which was going to clear off the loan with the Funding Globe and get rid of the debenture that is now going to cause the club to enter administration.
“This was agreed but it never happened.
“We do have control of the club’s bank accounts so I can confirm the money never came into the club’s bank account. Whether it got diverted [somewhere else] or not, I don’t know. But, as I say, administration is days away.”
The club is unable to obtain comment from Hamilton Academical as they banned the publication from contacting any players or staff following our wage bill revelations in January.
However, a statement from Accies last month insisted they would fight Funding Globe’s attempts to force administration.
It read: “If administration is forced by The Funding Globe, and their preferred liquidators, we will prepare an immediate injunction to prevent this and fight the process on the basis that we highly question the validity of the charge and we are actively seeking advice.”
Lanarkshire Live Sport reiterates that it stands by its coverage of the club.
