Senior Andrew Bennett (Bossier City, La.) returns as the defending individual champion as he posted under par scores (71, 71 and 70) in each of his three rounds at the 2024 conference championships. Bennett became just the third player in conference championship history to do so, and his three-day total of 212 is tied for the third-lowest finishing score in conference history.

Bennett was appropriately named the 2024 SCAC Men’s Golfer of the Year and earned First-Team All-SCAC honors. Sophomore Aubrey Snell (Shreveport, La.) was named the SCAC Freshman of the Year as he helped form a dynamic duo for the Gents alongside Bennett. Snell finished third in the conference championships last spring at 8-over par 224 as he was also named to the All-SCAC First Team.

Bennett is the first Centenary men’s golfer in the division III era to win an individual conference title as he finished nine shots ahead of Jacob Mason of Trinity University (+5 – 221). The Gents earned a fourth-place team finish (+76 – 940) last spring which is their best at the event since finishing fourth in 2014.

Junior Jeffrey Borchert (Katy, Texas) placed 33rd (45-over par 261) last season after shooting 93-85-83, and is back this week. Freshman Ryder Briggs (Blanchard, La.) junior Colton Mayer (Heath, Texas) round out the Gents’ lineup as each makes their postseason debut this week. Mayer will tee off at 8:30 a.m. followed by Briggs (8:38 a.m.), Borchert (8:46 a.m.), Snell (8:54 a.m.), and finally Bennett at 9:04 a.m.

The Gents finished fifth in the West Region Invitational hosted by Southwestern on April 1 in their most recent action as they shot a 67-over par 931 for the tournament at Berry Creek Country Club in Georgetown, Texas. Snell and Bennett each tied for 25th place to lead the way for the Gents, shooting 13-over par 229. Snell shot rounds of 78-76-75 while Bennett carded rounds of 81-73-75.

Bennett claimed the individual title in the Gents’ annual home tournament, the Hal Sutton Invitational, on March 18 and was named the SCAC Men’s Golfer of the Week. Bennett, who also tied for the individual title at the Pinecrest Invitational last month, now owns four-career outright wins, 11 top-five finishes, and 14 top-10 finishes in his impressive career. He won the individual title at the Crusader Cup on Oct. 29 and earned a runner-up finish at the UMHB Invitational in September. Bennett has been named the SCAC Men’s Golfer of the Week three times this season as he also picked up the award on Oct. 30 after his victory at the Crusader Cup.

Snell has followed up his impressive rookie season with a strong sophomore campaign. He began the Fall with a tie for eighth in the SCAC Preview, finished fifth in both the UMHB Invitational and Crusader Cup, and earned a top-25 finish in the Space City Classic and a 15th-place finish in the Pinecrest.

The Ladies finished fifth in the West Region Invitational but did not record a team score as sophomore Mya Thompson (South Jordan, Utah) had to withdraw from the final round after shooting a 20-over par 92 in round one. Centenary shot a 79-over par 367 on Monday.

Freshman Haylee Crowder (Haughton, La.) earned the Ladies’ top finish as she shot a 25-over par 169 (85-84) to tie for 15th place. Freshman Amber Shaw (Hughes Springs, Texas) finished 20th at 32-over 176 (92-84) and sophomore Jordyn Templeton (Columbus, Texas) shot a 49-over 193 (98-95).

Thompson will be the first to tee off for the Ladies on Sunday as she goes off at 9:05 a.m. followed by Templeton at 9:13 a.m., Shaw at 9:21 a.m. and finally Crowder at 9:29 a.m.

The Ladies finished seventh last season as they shot a 391-over par 1,255. Templeton finished in a tie for 31st place at 99-over par 315 and Thompson finished 33rd at 105-over par 321 as she has shot rounds of 108-108-105. Crowder and Shaw will each make their postseason debut this week.
