Gary Koch opens up to The Post 25 years after his everlasting Tiger Woods call

PONTE VEDRA, Fla. — The call, like the shot, was better than most.

It was 25 years ago, the third round of the 2001 Players Championship, when NBC golf announcer Gary Koch’s call of an impossible 60-foot Tiger Woods birdie putt on the iconic island-green 17th hole went viral before there was any such thing as viral.

To this day, Koch’s “better than most’’ call lives in infamy.

“I joke all the time that it’ll probably be on the headstone on my grave,’’ Koch told The Post on Saturday, the 25th anniversary of the putt and the call.
