Dunton Hills Golf Centre closed ‘due to developments’

Dunton Hills Golf Course, in Tilbury Road, permanently closed last week after almost 30 years “due to recent developments”, according to the business’ website.

The course, between Dunton in the Basildon borough and West Horndon in the Brentwood borough, was based on land earmarked for the new Dunton Hills Garden Village.

This will feature 3,700 homes, community and sports facilities, and four schools.

A statement on its website says: “Due to recent developments Dunton Hills Golf Centre is now closed.

“Our main phone line (01277 812340) will remain open temporarily to answer any enquiries.”

The development, by Commercial Estates Group, was approved by Brentwood Borough Council in March.

In the masterplan for the development, it states the manicured golf course will be replaced by fenland meadow within the floodplain of the Eastlands Spring, with existing ponds being “retained and enhanced through planting to promote biodiversity”.

“Within this meadow a series of new ponds will allow for the translocation of Great Crested Newts and promote a wetland habitat for migrating birds,” it adds.
