Kris Boyd went on another ramble about Celtic’s transfer policy and Brendan Rodgers’ resignation and was immediately shut down by Chris Sutton and James McFadden.
Rodgers left Celtic in a cloud of mystery as his shock resignation sparked an immediate and fierce response from Dermot Desmond.
The Celtic shareholder got the Rodgers scattergun out and eviscerated the former Hoops boss on the Celtic website branding his ‘toxic’ and ‘self-serving’.
And as Celtic fans await an explanation of why Rodgers left the club, Chris Sutton believes it was the club’s transfer policy that was the final straw for the Northern Irishman.

Sutton nails Celtic’s transfer policy and Brendan Rodgers resignation as McFadden nails Boyd
Sutton was on bang on point as the former Celtic striker took shots at the club’s transfer policy as the sole reason Rodgers left the club, and as usual, Boyd gets it all wrong again as James McFadden steps in to correct the former Rangers striker.
Sutton said on Sky Sports, “Here’s a question then. Okay, so just imagine Brendan Rodgers loses Kyogo at the end of January, Okay?
“And he has a wish list after the summer transfer window of strikers, which he wants who’s going to take him to the to the next level, and his wish list is Callum Osmand, Shin Yamada, and Iheanacho.
“Are you telling me they are the three strikers Brendan Rodgers wanted? Do you think Brendan Rodgers wanted Johnny Kenny starting up front at Hearts? That wouldn’t be the case.
“And then there’s sort of the Inamura situation, Simpson-Pusey, they are head scratching situations where I don’t think anybody can make head or tail of it.
“Over the years, there’s been massive issues with Celtics at the transfer strategy. No one has ever sort of got to the bottom of it. It’s a mess.”
Kris Boyd replied: “He’s complaining about players coming in and they’ve sold them on for big money. So it can’t always be that bad.
“Listen, you’re always at risk when it comes to transfers, especially in Scotland, because, everybody thinks that because you sell someone for £20 million, you’re going to go and spend that money.
“Celtic would have sold them for £20 million, went back to the transfer fee that they paid for these guys that are selling for two or three million, and if you hit the jackpot, you hit the jackpot, and if you don’t, then so be it, that’s what it’s been.”
McFadden wasn’t having any of Boyd’s nonsense and said: “It’s not about the fee, Chris’s point, and there is going to be truth in the statement, in that he endorsed the signings, but what signings was he asking for?
“Was he happy with what’s presented to him? We don’t know that. I would suggest that he wasn’t, because you look at the players that have left, and I’m not saying if you sell someone for £20 million you bring in a £20 million pound player, but you can still bring in a player that fits the profile of the player that’s left the club, and they’ve not done that.”
Chris Sutton tells ‘the story’ about Brendan Rodgers leaving Celtic
With Boyd put firmly back in his place, Sutton then reiterated the real ‘story’ about Rodgers’ resignation and why Celtic fans are now demonstrating against the Parkhead board.
Sutton continued, “I understand both sides of of what you’re saying, but the story is, from January, and this is the story, this is why Brendan has ended up leading from January up until now.
“When Brendan resigned, he has clearly been unhappy. He would have resigned because of the situation with recruitment.
“And people talk about the divisive nature of some of his comments. We aren’t on the inside of the club, so we can’t really, [Boyd tries to interrupt], hang on a minute, we can’t really involve ourselves with that, but this isn’t the first time that Celtic fans have been unhappy with the board for the lack of transfer activity over a summer.
“Seven out of the last nine Champions League qualifiers, Celtic have come up short in a period of 12 years.
“And the constant with that has been the managers. Brendan Rodgers twice, Ange Postecoglou, Neil Lennon and Ronny Deila and they’ve all said that the club have come up bit short and not got players in quickly enough. That has been a constant. That has been a problem.
“So the anger at the board, this isn’t anything new. I mean, it is vitriolic at this moment in time, and the supporters are angry, but they feel let down. Brendan Rodgers felt he was let down. That’s why he went.”
Boyd proves once again that he can’t take his blinkers off and look at Celtic’s situation objectively as he just looks to criticise the Parkhead club despite the facts staring him in the face.
As for Sutton and McFadden, both were bang on the money about Celtic fan feeling towards the club’s transfer business and Rodgers’ resignation.
It’s unlikely fans will ever find out the real reason Rodgers left Celtic, but they have a very good idea why.
