Chelsea can now slash millions off £50m Alejandro Garnacho deal thanks to Liverpool

Chelsea are still hoping to sign Alejandro Garnacho before the start of the season.

The Argentina international is surplus to requirements at Manchester United after falling out of favour under Ruben Amorim towards the end of last season.

TBR Football understand Chelsea even hope to have Garnacho signed in a £50m move before the 2025/26 Premier League campaign kicks off against Crystal Palace on Sunday.

However, some sales need to happen first, with Enzo Maresca still looking to offload Christopher Nkunku, Axel Disasi, Renato Veiga and Ben Chilwell, but Liverpool could be about to do Chelsea a favour by signing Marc Guehi.

Chelsea set to make around £7m from Marc Guehi to Liverpool

Paul Joyce of The Times believes Liverpool are in talks to sign the England international from Crystal Palace for a deal in the region of £35m.

When selling Guehi to the south Londoners back in July 2021 in a £20m move, Chelsea also negotiated a 20% sell-on clause to secure a cut of the fee from any future sale.

Therefore, should Liverpool pay £35m for the Crystal Palace No.6 as expected, it would bank Chelsea a sum of £7m – which is almost a fifth of the £50m sum Manchester United want for Garnacho.

Guehi – who Jamie Carragher rates – started for Crystal Palace against Liverpool in the FA Community Shield at Wembley on Sunday, helping the Eagles win on penalties in what could well be his final game for the club.

Chelsea also negotiated matching rights

On the flip side, Chelsea might also choose to rival Liverpool for Guehi after Levi Colwill suffered damage to his anterior cruciate ligament.

Following this setback, Maresca said: “It is (now) a priority.

“Levi is a fantastic player. What we achieved last season is because of him. He played a lot of games with me, I love him. We are going to miss him. We are trying also to find different solutions.”

Crucially, Chelsea also negotiated matching rights when selling Guehi to Crystal Palace – according to Football London – which means the Eagles must inform the Blues of any bids made for the defender, giving those at Stamford Bridge the option to match the offer.

Therefore, Liverpool might face competition from Chelsea for the 25-year-old.
