Birmingham City are scheduled to play League Two Cambridge United in the FA Cup on Saturday evening
Cambridge United are more confident that their FA Cup tie with Birmingham City will go ahead than they were before last weekend’s League Two match against Grimsby Town was postponed.
Blues travel to Cambridge for their third round tie after a night of snow in the Second City without any guarantees that the game will be played.
A pitch inspection is due to be held at lunchtime on Saturday ahead of the 5:45pm kick-off at The Abbey.
Cambridge’s clash with Grimsby on Sunday was postponed due to a frozen pitch and there are concerns that the Blues match could also fall victim to the weather.
Rain is expected to lash down in Cambridge all day on Friday and through the night, with temperatures close to freezing.
Despite that, Cambridge are hopeful that their pitch will be able to host a money-spinning cup tie against Championship Blues.
U’s head coach Neil Harris said: “From what I’m told, it’s going to be in a lot better position than last week.
“The weather has obviously picked up but I think it’s more a fear of what’s coming with the rain than anything else.
“I’m sure the club will update everyone in the next 24 hours but at the moment, as a coach, I’m confident the game is going to be on.”
