Birdie Barn Putting Range opens this week in West Mersea

Joe Hedges, 32, is the owner of Wonderland Amusements in Witham, a food and amusements business which trades at events across the UK, including Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park.

The business is launching Birdie Barn Putting Range at West Mersea Marine Boatyard, next to Seafood at Dawn, for a six-week period from Thursday.

Birdie Barn Putting Range has branded itself as “the ultimate indoor mini golf experience with a twist” on its Facebook page.

Mr Hedges thought the idea “might be fun” to do and set about creating the course.

He said: “We got in touch with the boatyard about it.

“There isn’t really anything for young families to do like this in the area.

“So it’s something we liked the idea of, the golf and food offering.”

Many of the games were decided in February and then Mr Hedges and his team worked to bring them to life over the last several months.

The barn itself is a “mobile unit” which is used as “multi-purpose structure”, so at Winter Wonderland it is turned into a café.

Mr Hedges said: “We’re just excited, we came up with the games and then pulled the trigger on it.

“We’ve had a lot of good feedback, and we hope everyone can come down and have a look.”

The mini golf putting challenge costs £7 per person, four loaded donuts cost between £5 to £7 and deluxe ice cream milkshakes are £6.

Birdie Barn Putting Range will open Monday to Sunday 11am until 6pm.

Parking is available at Burma Road Car Park in Coast Road.
