Mangan departs for Brazil – Stockport County

Stockport County can confirm that first-team coach Andy Mangan has departed the Club in order to take up a new role at Brazilian side Botafogo.

Andy joined Dave Challinor’s coaching staff last Summer, following a spell as caretaker manager of Bristol Rovers – where he had previously worked as assistant to Joey Barton. The former Fleetwood forward played his part as County finished 3rd in League One – our highest league finish in 23 years.

The move to the Rio de Janeiro will see Mangan link up with Davide Ancelotti, following the Italian’s appointment as the new Botafogo manager. The duo previously worked together when completing their coaching badges.

The Brazilian club are currently sat 8th in the Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A, having just competed in the Club World Cup in the USA – beating European Champions PSG in a group-stage game before being knocked out by Palmeiras in the last-16.

We wish Andy well in this exciting new chapter of his career, and thank him for his efforts during his time with us.
