Joel Dahmen got off to a poor start at the Rocket classic, with a round of two-over par 74.
That left Dahmen a whopping 12 shots adrift of round one leaders Aldrich Potgieter and Kevin Roy.
The 37-year-old’s opening round at the Rocket Classic consisted of three bogeys and a solitary birdie.
Dahmen suffered heartbreak at the Corales Puntacana Championship back in April, when he bogeyed his final two holes to agonisingly lose to Garrick Higgo by just one stroke.

He is well-known for his appearances on Netflix’s ‘Full Swing’ documentary, alongside his caddie Geno Bonnalie.
However, Bonnalie had the week off at Detroit Golf Club, with a very familiar face stepping in for him.
Five-time PGA Tour winner caddies for Joel Dahmen at the Rocket Classic
Dahmen played alongside joint first-round leader Kevin Roy on day one.
And as the players shook hands on the final green, Ben Crane – a five-time PGA Tour winner – was spotted on Dahmen’s bag.
The 49-year-old has won some big events, including the FedEx St. Jude Classic and the Farmers Insurance Open.
Interestingly, Crane was disqualified from the tournament that Dahmen nearly won in April, after he played the wrong ball and failed to correct the error before teeing off on the next hole.

Unfortunately for Crane, he didn’t seem to have a positive impact on Dahmen’s golf at the Rocket Classic on Thursday.
Ben Crane’s PGA Tour record
Crane has an extremely impressive career record on the PGA Tour to his name.
Here are his results after spending more than two decades on tour.
| Results | Total |
| Events played | 454 |
| Wins | 5 |
| Top-5s | 20 |
| Top-10s | 48 |
| Cuts made | 288 |
Whether Crane plans on caddying more regularly now is uncertain.
He was most likely just doing a favour for a friend in Detroit on Thursday.
And Dahmen will most likely have his best friend Bonnalie back on the bag sooner rather than later.
