John Elway’s Agent Jeff Sperbeck’s Cause Of Death Released After Golf Cart Accident

A cause of death for Jeff Sperbeck— veteran agent of NFL Hall of Famer John Elway— who died last month following a golf cart accident, has been released.

On April 26, Sperbeck, 62, sustained “serious injuries” while riding on the back of a golf cart at a private resort community in La Quinta, California. At the time, Elway was confirmed to have been the driver of the vehicle by NBC affiliate KUSA of Denver. Elway was reported to have been a resident of the community where the fatal accident happened.

An emergency team from Cal Fire Riverside responded to the scene. Days later, on April 30, Sperbeck died at the hospital from what a local coroner’s office has confirmed to have been his injuries sustained in the accident.

The Riverside Sheriff’s Coroner Bureau confirmed his cause of death as blunt head trauma in a statement issued to NBC News. His manner of death was ruled an accident, noting that he was a passenger when he fell from a golf cart.

Elway issued a statement on April 30, saying he was “absolutely devastated and heartbroken” by Sperbeck’s death.

“There are no words to truly express the profound sadness I feel with the sudden loss of someone who has meant so much to me,” Elway said.

“My heart and deepest sympathies go out to Jeff’s wife, Cori; his children Carly, Sam and Jackson; and everyone who knew and loved him. Jeff will be deeply missed for the loyalty, wisdom, friendship and love he brought into my life and the lives of so many others.”

Sperbeck’s wife, Cori, and his family gave a statement to NBC News on May 1 regarding his passing.

“He was a wonderful father, husband, brother, son and friend to many and will be profoundly missed by all. We are grieving this unimaginable loss as a family alongside our dearest friends the Elway’s and the many other clients Jeff called friends,” the family said. “We are grateful for the overwhelming outpouring of support that we have received and ask for privacy for our family at this difficult time.”
