Rory McIlroy’s daughter shows talent runs in the family after sinking long putt in Augusta

Rory McIlroy’s four-year-old daughter has proved golfing talent runs in the family, after coolly sinking a putt on the eve of the 89th Masters.

The Northern Irishman, who needs to win the Masters to complete the career grand slam, helped Poppy with a long birdie on the final hole.

After the ball rolled into the hole, Poppy was lifted into the air as the crowd cheered, before getting a hug from her dad.

“Yeah, very cool,” McIlroy said when asked about that moment.

“It’s just such a fun afternoon. Being out there with Shane (Lowry) and Tommy (Fleetwood) and their families, we’re all very, very close, so to have the kids out there and them having fun is the most important thing.

“It’s a really nice way to sort of end the preparation going into what is the serious part of the week. So it’s nice to be able to get out here and do this.”

Success in the competition, which starts in Augusta, Georgia on Thursday, would make McIlroy only the sixth player to complete a career grand slam.
