Man Utd Ready to Sell Mason Mount After Michael Carrick Decision

Manchester United are open to selling Mason Mount after the season with the midfielder not part of their future plans, according to Football Insider.

The Old Trafford side are preparing for a busy summer transfer window as they look to continue their rebuild under a permanent manager.

United reportedly feel it may be best for Mount to move on at the next available opportunity, having grown concerned over his ongoing fitness issues since his arrival from Chelsea in 2023.

Mount is believed to be one of United’s top earners, taking home a reported £250,000 a week on a contract running until the summer of 2028.

Man Utd Prepared to Accept Mount Offers

According to Football Insider, United are prepared to move Mount on when the transfer window opens, after he failed to convince head coach Michael Carrick:

“Man United will be open to offers for Mount if they come in.

“I don’t think it’s any slight on him, everybody I speak to at Man United speaks very highly of him, but his injury record doesn’t stand up.

“He’s hardly played under Michael Carrick because of those injuries as well.

“It’s a shame because as I say, he’s spoken about very highly at Man United, but they’re prepared to move him on and that might allow them to get somebody else in.”

Mount came off the bench in the closing stages of Carrick’s first game in charge, a 2-0 win over Manchester City, before being left on the sidelines against Arsenal.

The midfielder missed the next three games after picking up a minor injury in training but is expected to be fit in time for United’s trip to Everton on Monday.

Mount has found the back of the net three times in 17 league appearances for United this season, scoring in wins over Sunderland, Crystal Palace and Wolves.

Manchester United are gearing up for several major outgoings after the season, with outcast Jadon Sancho also likely to leave.

According to reports, the England international is set to depart Old Trafford when his contract expires in June, with United unlikely to exercise their one-year extension clause.

Sancho is spending the season on loan at Aston Villa, where he has made 15 league appearances and provided one assist.

The 25-year-old has not played league football for United in over two years, with his last appearance coming in the 2024 Community Shield.

With speculation growing over Mount’s future, we asked ChatGPT where the England international could potentially move next if United decide to sell him this summer:

  • Chelsea – A return could reignite Mount’s confidence in a familiar system where he excelled, offering creativity and work rate in midfield.
  • Bayern Munich – The Bundesliga’s tactical emphasis and attacking style could suit Mount’s energy and vision, while giving him European competition exposure.
  • Newcastle United – Staying in the Premier League with an ambitious project could guarantee regular minutes and a pivotal midfield role.
