Carabao Cup first round clashes will be played over the weekend of August 7th-9th, with the Championship, League One and League Two then starting on August 14th-16th.

Of course, Town could well be back in the Premier League, which starts a week later on the weekend of Saturday, August 22nd.

And, if they are back in the top tier, Town wouldn’t enter the Carabao Cup until the second round.

The Blues last started the season with a Carabao Cup game back in 2020/21, when the season kicked off in September in the wake of the Covid pandemic.

They beat Bristol Rovers 3-0 in the first round on September 5th, followed a week later by seeing off Wigan Athletic 2-0 in League One.

Next season’s dates mean the new football league season won’t start until almost a month after this summer’s World Cup Final, which will be played at the Metlife Stadium in New Jersey on July 19th.
