Leeds United now looking at hiring manager Mikel Arteta thinks is ‘unbelievable’

More recently, Zsolt Low was offered to Leeds by Red Bull – a man who has previously assisted Thomas Tuchel at Chelsea and Bayern Munich.

Gary O’Neil is the latest name under consideration by Leeds – according to talkSPORT – and if he does replace Daniel Farke in Yorkshire, the appointment would come with approval from Mikel Arteta based on past comments.

Back in April 2024 as Arsenal prepared to face his Wolves side, the man born in Beckenham received effusive praise from the Spaniard, who had been left blown away by his coaching skills.

Arteta told the official Arsenal website: “Unbelievable, so good. You can tell how well they are coached, the spirit of the team, the difficulty that they create against every opponent, really good side and it will be really tough (to beat them).”

The 43-year-old is a man who obsesses over details and also knows his stuff too with Arsenal currently sitting top of the Premier League, so his praise of O’Neil speaks volumes.

O’Neil very nearly landed a return to management last month at his old club Wolves.

Advanced talks took place, but the Londoner ‘felt the job was not right for him at this time’ according to a report from Sky Sports.

That may have simply been a nice way of saying that O’Neil realised what a mess Wolves are currently in – they sit bottom with just two points – and politely declined the offer.

Contrastingly, Leeds are only in the bottom three on goal difference and have a much stronger chance of survival than Wolves, so we presume he would be interested in replacing Farke if the opportunity arises.
