What Luke McCowan told Celtic captain Callum McGregor after his stunning St Mirren winner

Celtic captain Callum McGregor snatched three points against St Mirren on Saturday night when it looked like two were about to be dropped.

Celtic’s win at St Mirren was one of champions, one that shows courage from a team who never gives up despite playing poorly.

It’s also a win that could have a big say in the title race, especially after Hearts choked under the pressure as Derek McInnes’ side lost at Aberdeen.

In these games, big characters need to step up and there are none as big as Celtic captain Callum McGregor.

As the seconds ticked down, McGregor’s last-gasp Celtic goal ensured Martin O’Neill’s 100% win record remained intact. And it also inspired Luke McCowan to send his captain a message.

Luke McCowan is in awe of Celtic captain Callum McGregor

As a life-long Celtic supporter, Luke McCowan is currently living the dream. Wearing the green and white Hoops and winning silverware is the dream of every Celtic fan.

And after watching McGregor’s stunning goal clinch an important win, McCowan shares what he told the Celtic captain immediately after his winning goal.

McCowan told The National, “I think that Callum exemplifies that as a player, as a captain, as a leader. The qualities he’s got. He keeps going and going and going, and long may it continue.

“I think that’s just being present. You’ve got to try to stay that way when you’re a football player. It’s so hard when you play with a big club like Celtic and things are happening. It’s just a hard thing to do.

“I said that to him right after. I said, ‘Mate, you’ve no idea, just the calmness you show in moments like that, to then go and do it’.

“He did it in the semi-final [against Rangers] as well. He’s a great, great leader and, as I said, he shows by example every time.”

Callum McGregor’s Celtic goals so far this season

McGregor’s rocket against St Mirren was a beauty and it’s one of three so far for the Celtic skipper this season.

Whilst the Hearts defeat was a disappointing result, McGregor will have the chance to remedy that in just over two weeks’ time.
