Chelsea loanee makes a statement with masterclass display in 6-2 win

The loan system has been Chelsea’s best friend for several years. Yet again, the Blues have plenty of exciting youngsters out on loan developing their game in the 2025/26 season.

If you look at the current Chelsea squad, the likes of Reece James and Trevoh Chalobah benefited massively from loan spells to help them improve.

Chelsea loaned out numerous players this summer, both to clubs in England and overseas. Unfortunately for Marc Guiu, he’s already been recalled from his loan at Sunderland because they need the striker due to Liam Delap’s injury.

Chelsea loanee Leo Castledine dazzles for Huddersfield Town

On Tuesday night, Huddersfield Town thrashed Newcastle United’s Under-21s side 6-2 in the Vertu Trophy group stage match.

Leo Castledine, 20, joined League One outfit Huddersfield in the summer on a season-long loan from Chelsea. He just made his first real statement for them with his midweek performance.

The attacking midfielder scored one goal and assisted another, plus won his side a penalty kick when he was fouled in the area.

Chelsea opted against selling Castledine in the summer and instead sent him out on loan again. Incidentally, he was part of a Shrewsbury side last year that were relegated from League One.

Back in January 2024, Blues legend John Terry highlighted Castledine’s potential by claiming he’s someone that fans will love.

The academy graduate has made one first-team appearance in Chelsea colours, but will we see him back in West London once he’s developed his game further?

The on-loan playmaker has looked the part for Huddersfield in cup competitions, so now his aim has to be to break into their best XI for the league campaign.

Castledine will hope he’s following in the footsteps of players such as Levi Colwill and Trevoh Chalobah, who had spells with Huddersfield earlier in their careers before breaking into Chelsea’s first team.
