OAKMONT, Pa. — With only three players under par as Moving Day begins, Oakmont Country Club is certainly not beating the allegations. The toughest golf course in the United States continues to show its teeth as the 2025 U.S. Open enters its final 36 holes with a wide-open leaderboard that could be conquered by any number of names — big or small.
Sam Burns enters Saturday with a one-shot lead on the field, though 18-hole leader J.J. Spaun, Viktor Hovland, Adam Scott and Ben Griffin are all within three as play begins on the weekend. Keegan Bradley, Scottie Scheffler, Collin Morikawa and Jon Rahm lurk much further down the leaderboard, though given the difficulties inherent with this Western Pennsylvania site, plenty can change before the final round. Eyes will also be on Rory McIlroy, who snuck inside the cutline but would need a pair of miracle rounds to contend. As it pertains to McIlroy, the goal will be finding his game after a couple disastrous starts following his victory at the Masters.
