The 2025 PGA Tour season comes to an end this weekend with the Tour Championship at its long-time home at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta. The top 30 in the FedEx Cup standings all started from the same spot in their pursuit of the FedEx Cup title, as the old starting strokes format was retired.
The man who comes out on top at East Lake Golf Club will take home the Tour Championship trophy, FedEx Cup trophy and a $10 million paycheck, as the PGA Tour is shelling out $40 million in total prize money for the event.
The overwhelming favorite this week was Scottie Scheffler, fresh off his fifth win of the year at the BMW Championship. While Scheffler already collected nearly $20 million in prize money and bonuses in the playoffs, the world No. 1 is looking to cap off a lucrative August with one more win and big payday.
Scheffler will have to come from behind once again if he wants to go back to back at the Tour Championship. He slid from solo second after the first round to solo sixth after the second round, five shots back of 36-hole co-leaders Tommy Fleetwood and Russell Henley. Fleetwood appeared poised to win his first career PGA Tour event two weeks ago at the FedEx St. Jude Championship only to collapse Sunday, falling one stroke shy of a playoff and two of an outright win. He not only seeks atonement for that loss but all the other times he’s come up short on the PGA Tour over the years.
Henley entered the Tour Championship as one of the most trendy selections, and he’s done nothing but confirm the faith that experts and fans placed in him this week. Cameron Young, Robert MacIntyre and Patrick Cantlay sit between the leaders and Scheffler with Rory McIlroy and Justin Thomas both inside the top 10 still serving as legitimate threats to make a run on Moving Day.
